   About Heather Iliff

 

As an activist and as a parent, Heather Iliff is committed to education as the fundamental key to strong communities.  She has served as a volunteer at the local level in a variety of roles, including chair of the Education Advisory Committee in College Park and president of her local civic association.  Heather is currently Deputy Director for Education of Alliance for Nonprofit Management in Washington, DC.  She lives with her husband, Jeff and daughter, Maya in the Berwyn Neighborhood of College Park.

 

 


Involvement in Education and Community
 


 

 

Chair/Member, Education Advisory Committee, City of College Park

  • Led “Community Education Forum” that brought together 50 parents, teachers, administrators and public officials for a dialogue on education priorities in College Park and surrounding areas
  • Organized Pre-School Fairs showcasing early childhood education in College Park area
  • Coordinated community education events such as Municipal Bowl, PTA Officers’ Forum
  • Helped launch email forum for coordination of education advocacy in the North County (PG_NorthCounty_Education@yahoogroups.com)
  • Involved Parent of First Grader at Paint Branch Elementary School, PTA Member
  • President, Berwyn District Civic Association
  • Organized numerous community events, including College Park Area Homes Fair, Berwyn Day, Neighborhood Clean-Up, Monthly Civic Association Meetings including one focused on education
  • Issue advocacy in favor of new high school in North County, full funding for public education, more funding for guidance counselors and media centers in public schools.  Also advocated for safer crossing at Paint Branch Parkway, against opening Pawn Shop in Berwyn, and other issues

      Heather Iliff, 36, is a parent of a second grader in Prince George's County Public Schools and Chair of the Education Advisory Committee in College Park, MD.  She has organized numerous local forums on education, has served as President of the Berwyn District Civic Association, and served as the Student Member of the Board of Education in Anne Arundel County.  Currently, Ms. Iliff is Deputy Director for Education at the Alliance for Nonprofit Management.  Previously, Ms. Iliff worked overseas for nearly a decade on education policy and reform in East-Central Europe where she gained experience in comparative education systems and large-scale change management.  She is a trained facilitator with experience in strategic planning, K-12 education policy, and adult learning.  Ms. Iliff holds a bachelors degree in International Studies from The American University and a Masters in Political Science from the Central European University (accredited by University of the State of New York).  For more information, visit www.heatheriliff.com.
